I'm going to Virginia Tech next year in Blacksburg, VA. I am worried because I got my financial aid in the mail, and got a lot less than I was offered at another school. I wouldn't have been able to compare tech's aid to anywhere else since they send out their notifications later than other schools. Anyway, my family has always been lower middle class and I never expected them to support me financially with college. But after getting my financial aid package, I've realized that there is still about $1500 that is unaccounted for, not to mention things that haven't been factored in yet. I don't know where I'll be able to get that money to pay off the rest of my bill before school starts, and where to get money for my school necessities, like books and things I'll need for the dorm. I'm planning on getting a job once I get to Tech to help with money AFTER school begins, but I am unsure of how to get money within the next month. Does anybody know if it's possible to get additional money from Virginia Tech? My parents are able to get another loan, due to our mortgage and my mother losing her job. I'd prefer the aid to be in the form of grants, since most of my package are Stafford & Unsub Loans, but I wouldn't object to whatever is offered...I just need to know how to go about this, who to talk to, and what to ask them.
